What are trending pools?

Trending pools are DEX pools that a data site ranks by recent activity, such as volume, trades and page views, to show where traders are piling in.

How do trending pools work?

GeckoTerminal and DexScreener both rank pools by recent activity. Each uses its own recipe, usually some mix of volume, trade count, price change, liquidity and how many people open the page, measured over a short window. Neither list is a neutral measurement of anything.

In the trenches this is the main discovery tool, and it feeds itself. A token lands on the list, more eyes find it, some of them buy, and the buying keeps it there. That loop is exactly why people game it. Bots and wash trading inflate the numbers, and DexScreener sells boosts that raise a token's visibility on its own site.

So read what sits under the rank. Two numbers do most of the work: volume against liquidity, and pool age. A pool that is 40 minutes old with thin liquidity and huge volume is a different animal from an older pair that is slowly getting noticed. Buy and sell counts help too, though bots fake those as well.

Say a Base token tops the list with $3 million of 24h volume on $80,000 of liquidity. That is a volume to liquidity ratio of 37.5. Money is churning through a tiny pool, probably a lot of it from bots, and one holder selling can move the price hard.

Also called: trending tokens, hot pairs, trending pairs.

Where do trending pools show up in Cashboard?

The Trending on-chain widget shows GeckoTerminal trending pools for one network, with price, 1h and 24h change, 24h volume next to liquidity, pool age and a bar of 24h buys versus sells. You can sort by rank, change, volume or newest. If GeckoTerminal fails to answer or hits its rate limit, the widget falls back to DexScreener boosted tokens and says plainly that this is paid placement. Arc has no trending feed yet. On Base, Base launches adds Zora's own Trending list, which ranks coins rather than pools and hides any with fewer than 25 holders.

Frequently asked questions

Can trending lists be manipulated?

Yes, and often. Bots and wash trading inflate volume, and DexScreener sells boosts outright. Before you trust a rank, look at liquidity and pool age.
