How to add a Dune query to a dashboard

You need Cashboard Desktop and your own Dune API key. Save the key under Connections, add the Dune query widget, then pick a preset or paste a query link. The widget reads the latest cached result, which does not rerun the query, and draws it as a line, a bar chart or a table. It cannot work in the browser version, because the web app has nowhere safe to keep a key.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Create a Dune API key

Sign in to Dune and create a key at dune.com/settings/api. Each read of a result spends credits on that Dune account, so check what your plan includes before you ask for 1,000 rows.

  2. 2

Save the key in Cashboard Desktop

Open Connections, the plug icon at the top of the tool panel (Ctrl \ brings the panel back if it is hidden). Paste the key under Dune and press Save. Cashboard encrypts it on your device and only ever sends it to Dune. Test reads a single row to confirm Dune accepts the key.

  3. 3

    Add the widget

Press Ctrl K and run Add Dune query, or click Dune query under Risk and flows in the Add panel. It starts on the DEX volume by chain preset, reading 100 rows. A widget added before the key shows a Connect card, which loads the result by itself once the key is saved.

  4. 4

    Pick the query

Click the query title in the widget header to open the picker. Choose one of the five presets, or paste a query number or a dune.com/queries link into Query ID or link and press Show. A dashboard link will not work, because a dashboard holds many queries: open the chart you want on Dune and copy that query's link.

  5. 5

    Set rows and the view

Open the picker again for Rows to read and choose 25, 100, 250 or 1,000. More rows cost more credits. Close the picker with the title, and the header offers Auto, Table, Line and Bar. Auto draws a line when rows follow a date, bars for one label and one number up to 25 rows, and a table otherwise. The other three force a view when the columns allow it.

Tips

  • No cached result yet means Dune has no finished run of that query, or the query is private or deleted. Run it on dune.com first, because the widget only reads results and never starts a run.
  • Updated in the header is when Dune last finished the query, not when Cashboard read it. For fresher numbers, rerun the query on Dune.
  • A shared board carries the query number, row count and view, never your key. Whoever opens it needs Cashboard Desktop and a Dune key of their own.
  • A line chart shares one axis, so a column more than 20 times larger or smaller than the first is left out and counted as one more column. The Table view keeps every column.

Frequently asked questions

Can I show a whole Dune dashboard?

Not in one widget. A dashboard is a page of many queries, so open each chart you want on Dune, copy its query link and give it a Dune query widget of its own. A frame keeps a set of them together on the board.

Does the widget run my Dune query?

No. It reads the result of Dune's last finished run. Reading does not start a new run, but Dune still charges credits for the size of what it returns, so keep the row count as low as the chart needs.
