What are xStocks?

xStocks are tokenized US stocks and ETFs issued by Backed, each backed one to one by the real security and tradable on-chain around the clock.

How do xStocks work?

xStocks went live on Solana on June 30, 2025, with more than 60 stocks and ETFs and with Kraken and Bybit as the first exchanges. Every token carries an x suffix, so Tesla becomes TSLAx and the S&P 500 ETF becomes SPYx. Backed, whose issuing company is registered in Jersey, holds the shares with custodians and mints tokens against them. Kraken announced a deal to buy the Backed group in December 2025.

Being standard Solana tokens (Token-2022) is the whole point. Soon after launch they traded on Raydium, Jupiter routed orders to them and Kamino accepted some as collateral. You can keep them in a self-custody wallet and send them like any other token. A broker account does none of that.

The catch is eligibility, and weekends. US persons cannot buy them, and access varies by platform and country. Minting and redemption go through Backed for approved participants only. Everyone else trades on secondary markets, where the price can wander away from the stock when the exchange is closed or the pool is thin.

Take a stock that last closed at $250. On Sunday its xStock trades at $246 on a Solana DEX. Arbitrage through Backed's minting and redemption has little room to work until the stock market reopens, so the gap can sit there all weekend.

Also called: Backed xStocks, xStock tokens.

Where do xStocks show up in Cashboard?

The Tokenized stocks widget pulls xStocks prices from Backed's public price feed for eight tickers and shows each token's premium or discount against the Yahoo Finance cash price. When Backed does not answer, the xStock column reads n/a instead of a guessed number.
