Optimism (OP) live price dashboard

Optimism is an Ethereum layer-2 project built on the open-source OP Stack, with OP Mainnet as its flagship rollup. This board puts OP beside BTC and ETH with 7-day and 30-day candles and OP Mainnet network status.

What is Optimism?

Optimism is an Ethereum layer-2 project built on the open-source OP Stack, with OP Mainnet as its flagship rollup. OP governs the Optimism Collective, and gas is paid in ETH. Chains that run the OP Stack and share revenue with the Collective form the Superchain, and Base, by far the largest, said in February 2026 that it would leave.

Optimism opened its mainnet to everyone in December 2021, and the OP token followed with an airdrop on May 31, 2022. The initial supply was 4,294,967,296 OP, exactly 2 to the power of 32. Governance is split in two: the Token House, where OP holders vote, and the Citizens' House, which directs retroactive public goods funding.

The business model was the Superchain. Chains built on the OP Stack sent part of their sequencer revenue to the Collective, and on January 28, 2026 governance approved spending half of it on OP buybacks in a 12-month pilot starting in February. Three weeks later, on February 18, Base announced it would move to its own stack and stop sharing revenue. Base had produced the large majority of the Collective's gas income. OP fell about 28% in two days.

What remains is OP Mainnet plus chains such as Unichain, World Chain, Ink and Soneium, which were in the revenue pool when the buyback passed. OP Labs says Base's new stack still shares about 99% of its code with the OP Stack. Code is not revenue, though, and the buybacks now depend on those smaller chains growing.

What do traders watch on OP?

  • Sequencer revenue from the chains still in the Superchain after Base's exit.
  • OP buybacks under the 12-month pilot approved in January 2026.
  • Votes in the Optimism Collective's Token House and Citizens' House.

What is OP used for on OP Mainnet?

OP is the governance token of OP Mainnet, where gas itself is paid in ETH. The OP Mainnet page covers watch-only wallets, trending pools and network status: block height, block age, fees and how fast the RPC answers.

Where can you compare fees across OP Stack chains?

On the L2 scoreboard, where OP Mainnet sits with the other OP Stack chains growthepie tracks. Half of the Collective's Superchain revenue funds the OP buyback pilot, and that revenue comes out of those chains' sequencer fees, so sorting by Fees gives a rough daily read on what feeds it. The figures are growthepie data under CC BY 4.0.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base still part of the Superchain?

Base announced on February 18, 2026 that it is leaving. It is moving off the OP Stack to its own Base-operated stack and ending its revenue sharing with the Optimism Collective. It remains an Ethereum layer-2 that uses ETH for gas.

Do I need OP to pay gas on OP Mainnet?

No, you pay gas on OP Mainnet in ETH. OP is for voting in the Token House, and since February 2026 part of Superchain sequencer revenue goes to buying it back.

Can I track OP without an account?

Yes. The OP board on this page runs in your browser and saves on your device. Prices come from CoinGecko. Paste a public Solana or EVM address into a watch-only Portfolio widget if you hold OP there.
