Ethereum Classic (ETC) live price dashboard
Ethereum Classic is the original Ethereum chain, the one that kept running unchanged when Ethereum hard forked in July 2016 to reverse The DAO hack. This board puts ETC beside BTC and ETH with 7-day and 30-day candles.
What is Ethereum Classic?
Ethereum Classic is the original Ethereum chain, the one that kept running unchanged when Ethereum hard forked in July 2016 to reverse The DAO hack. It still runs on proof of work with the Etchash algorithm, and its supply is capped at about 210.7 million ETC.
The split came at block 1,920,000 on July 20, 2016. Most of the community moved to the fork that returned The DAO funds. A minority kept the old chain on a code-is-law principle, and that chain became ETC. It shares Ethereum's history up to that block and nothing after it.
Monetary policy is fixed by ECIP-1017, known as 5M20. Every five million blocks, roughly every two years, the block reward falls by 20 percent. The fifth cut, at block 25,000,000 in 2026, took it from 2.048 to 1.6384 ETC. The 210.7 million cap dates from December 2017. Since the Thanos upgrade in November 2020, mining runs on Etchash, a version of Ethash with a smaller DAG.
Security is the weak spot. One of the August 2020 attacks cost an estimated $5.6 million in double spends. Then the Merge in September 2022 pushed a wave of Ethereum's GPU miners onto ETC and hashrate jumped. When those miners leave, the chain gets cheaper to attack again. In 2026 ETC still trades on most large spot exchanges, and US brokerage accounts can hold it through Grayscale's Ethereum Classic Trust (ETCG).

What do traders watch on ETC?
- Hashrate, because the chain was hit by 51 percent attacks in 2019 and 2020.
- Block reward cuts, which take 20 percent off every five million blocks.
- Miners arriving from other proof-of-work chains when their own rewards fall.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Ethereum and Ethereum Classic?
They share history up to block 1,920,000 in July 2016 and split over reversing The DAO hack. Ethereum took the fork and moved to proof of stake in 2022. Ethereum Classic kept the original chain, stays on proof of work and caps supply at about 210.7 million ETC.
Does Ethereum Classic have a halving?
Sort of. Instead of halving, the block reward drops by 20 percent every five million blocks, roughly every two years, under ECIP-1017. The fifth cut, which the community calls the Fifthening, came at block 25,000,000 in 2026 and took it from 2.048 to 1.6384 ETC.
Can I track ETC without an account?
Yes. The ETC board on this page runs in your browser and saves on your device. Prices come from CoinGecko. Cashboard does not read Ethereum Classic wallets, so add your amount to a manual Portfolio and it is priced live.
