Avalanche (AVAX) live price dashboard
Avalanche is a layer-1 platform built by Ava Labs, founded by Emin Gün Sirer, with mainnet live since September 2020. This board puts AVAX beside BTC and ETH with 7-day and 30-day candles and Avalanche C-Chain network status.
What is Avalanche?
Avalanche is a layer-1 platform built by Ava Labs, founded by Emin Gün Sirer, with mainnet live since September 2020. It runs the Avalanche consensus protocol and lets teams launch their own chains, called Avalanche L1s (formerly subnets), next to the EVM-compatible C-Chain. AVAX pays fees and is staked by validators.
Avalanche grew out of a 2018 paper by a pseudonymous group calling itself Team Rocket. Gün Sirer's Ava Labs took it to mainnet on September 21, 2020. The primary network has three chains: the X-Chain for transfers, the P-Chain for staking and validators, and the C-Chain for smart contracts.
AVAX has a hard cap of 720 million. Every transaction fee is burned and new AVAX only comes from staking rewards, and those two forces decide how fast supply drifts toward the cap. A primary network validator stakes at least 2,000 AVAX.
The Avalanche9000 upgrade, live since December 16, 2024, changed the math for custom chains. Validators of an Avalanche L1 no longer stake 2,000 AVAX. They pay a small continuous fee instead, about 1.3 AVAX a month at launch. BlackRock brought its BUIDL fund to Avalanche in November 2024, and the open question is whether tokenization and the new L1s pull volume back to the C-Chain.

What do traders watch on AVAX?
- New Avalanche L1 launches, and whether they bring real users.
- Tokenized funds and real-world assets deployed on the C-Chain.
- C-Chain DEX volume and stablecoin supply.
What is AVAX used for on Avalanche C-Chain?
AVAX pays for gas on Avalanche C-Chain. The Avalanche C-Chain page covers trending pools and network status: block height, block age, fees and how fast the RPC answers.

Frequently asked questions
What is the max supply of AVAX?
720 million AVAX. The cap is hard-coded, all transaction fees are burned, and new tokens enter circulation only as staking rewards.
What is the difference between the C-Chain, X-Chain and P-Chain?
The C-Chain runs EVM smart contracts and is where DeFi and most wallets live. The X-Chain handles asset transfers, and the P-Chain tracks validators, staking and Avalanche L1s. Most users only ever touch the C-Chain.
Can I track AVAX without an account?
Yes. The AVAX board on this page runs in your browser and saves on your device. Prices come from CoinGecko, and Binance fills in when CoinGecko does not answer. Cashboard does not read Avalanche wallets, so add your amount to a manual Portfolio and it is priced live.
