NEAR Protocol live price dashboard
NEAR Protocol is a proof-of-stake layer-1 co-founded by Illia Polosukhin and Alexander Skidanov, with mainnet live since 2020 and work split across shards by a design called Nightshade. This board puts NEAR beside BTC and ETH with 7-day and 30-day candles.
What is NEAR Protocol?
NEAR Protocol is a proof-of-stake layer-1 co-founded by Illia Polosukhin and Alexander Skidanov, with mainnet live since 2020 and work split across shards by a design called Nightshade. NEAR pays gas and is staked with validators, and accounts also lock some of it to pay for the data they store. These days the project leans on chain abstraction and AI agents.
Polosukhin is one of the eight authors of Attention Is All You Need, the 2017 Google paper that introduced the transformer. NEAR began as an AI startup and turned into a blockchain in 2018. Mainnet launched in 2020, and token transfers opened that October.
Genesis supply was 1 billion NEAR. New tokens come from staking inflation, which a protocol upgrade cut from 5% to 2.5% a year on October 30, 2025, about 60 million fewer tokens a year. The change was contested, because an earlier community vote had fallen short of its two-thirds threshold. Fees push the other way: 70% of gas is burned.
The growth story is NEAR Intents. Users state the swap they want and solvers compete to fill it across chains. It passed 10 billion dollars of all-time volume in January 2026 and passed 30 billion in September 2026. Most of that flow is swaps between other assets, so how much of it turns into demand for NEAR is still an open argument.

Frequently asked questions
Who founded NEAR Protocol?
Illia Polosukhin and Alexander Skidanov. Polosukhin co-wrote the 2017 transformer paper at Google, and Skidanov was an early engineer at MemSQL.
What is the NEAR inflation rate?
About 2.5% a year since October 30, 2025, down from 5%. With around half the supply staked, that puts staking rewards near 4.75%, and 70% of transaction fees are burned against the new issuance.
Can I track NEAR without an account?
Yes. The NEAR board on this page runs in your browser and saves on your device. Prices come from CoinGecko. Cashboard does not read NEAR Protocol wallets, so add your amount to a manual Portfolio and it is priced live.
