Polkadot (DOT) live price dashboard
Polkadot is a multichain network founded by Gavin Wood, an Ethereum co-founder, and built with Parity Technologies and the Web3 Foundation. This board puts DOT beside BTC and ETH with 7-day and 30-day candles.
What is Polkadot?
Polkadot is a multichain network founded by Gavin Wood, an Ethereum co-founder, and built with Parity Technologies and the Web3 Foundation. The relay chain went live in May 2020. It gives shared security to the chains connected to it, first called parachains, and DOT is staked under nominated proof of stake, votes in OpenGov and pays for blockspace, which Polkadot sells as coretime.
For most of its life DOT had no supply cap. The network minted about 120 million DOT a year, split between stakers and the treasury. If you staked, you kept up. If you did not, you were diluted.
That ended on March 14, 2026. Referendum 1710 set a hard cap of 2.1 billion DOT, and the first cut, timed for Pi Day, more than halved yearly issuance to roughly 56.9 million DOT. It steps down again every two years from there. Changing the cap would take another referendum.
Blockspace is sold differently now as well. Since 2024 teams buy coretime in bulk or on demand instead of winning a parachain slot auction that locked up DOT for up to two years. So coretime sales are the plainest measure of whether teams actually want to build on Polkadot.

What do traders watch on DOT?
- OpenGov referendums, which can change DOT issuance and treasury spending.
- Coretime sales, the cleanest read on demand for Polkadot blockspace.
- Activity on the chains Polkadot secures, beyond the relay chain itself.

Frequently asked questions
Does DOT have a max supply?
Yes, since 2026. Referendum 1710 capped DOT at 2.1 billion, and yearly issuance was cut to roughly 56.9 million DOT on March 14, 2026, with further cuts every two years. Before that DOT had no cap.
What is coretime on Polkadot?
Coretime is the right to have Polkadot validators process your chain's blocks. Teams buy it with DOT, either in four-week bulk periods or on demand, and it replaced the old parachain slot auctions in 2024.
Can I track DOT without an account?
Yes. The DOT board on this page runs in your browser and saves on your device. Prices come from CoinGecko, and Binance fills in when CoinGecko does not answer. Cashboard does not read Polkadot wallets, so add your amount to a manual Portfolio and it is priced live.
