What is Sei?
Sei is a layer-1 blockchain built for trading apps, co-founded by Jeff Feng and Jayendra Jog, with a mainnet that launched in August 2023. It added a parallel EVM in 2024 and switched off its Cosmos side in April 2026, so it now runs as an EVM-only chain. SEI pays gas and is staked by validators.
Sei launched as a Cosmos chain with order matching built into the protocol. Sei V2 went live in mid-2024 and added an EVM that runs transactions in parallel. Most new apps went to the EVM, so in May 2025 governance approved SIP-3 to drop Cosmos transactions, CosmWasm and IBC. The last Cosmos pieces were switched off between April 6 and April 8, 2026.
Giga is the next step, a rebuild aimed at 200,000 transactions per second with finality under 250 milliseconds. The v6.6 release in August 2026 shipped the first two parts, the Ares execution engine and Eidos storage. Autobahn, a consensus design where several validators propose blocks at once, comes later.
SEI has a total supply of 10 billion. Most of the rest sits with ecosystem, foundation and investor allocations that vest over years. So circulating supply keeps rising, whatever the chain does.

Is Sei EVM compatible?
Yes, and since April 2026 it is EVM only. Wallets such as MetaMask connect to Sei like any other EVM chain, and balances held on old Cosmos addresses moved to EVM addresses during the SIP-3 migration.
What is Sei Giga?
Giga is Sei's upgrade plan aimed at 200,000 transactions per second and sub-250 millisecond finality. It ships in stages: the Ares execution engine and Eidos storage went live with v6.6 in August 2026, and the Autobahn consensus is next.
