Stellar (XLM) live price dashboard

Stellar is an open payments network started in 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim. This board puts XLM beside BTC and ETH with 7-day and 30-day candles.

What is Stellar?

Stellar is an open payments network started in 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim. The nonprofit Stellar Development Foundation backs it, and the chain is built for one job: issuing and moving tokens such as stablecoins and tokenized funds, with a ledger closing about every five seconds. XLM, the lumen, pays fees and covers the minimum balance every account holds.

Stellar began as a fork of the Ripple code. In 2015 it switched to the Stellar Consensus Protocol, designed by Stanford professor David Mazières, in which each validator chooses which other validators it trusts.

Supply is fixed at about 50 billion XLM. The network used to add 1% a year through inflation until a vote switched that off in October 2019, and a month later the foundation burned 55 billion of its own lumens, about half of all XLM at the time. The SDF still holds a large amount and distributes it over time. That is the supply figure worth checking.

Soroban smart contracts went live in February 2024. Most real use is still plain issuance and payments, though. USDC and PayPal's PYUSD both run on Stellar, and Franklin Templeton has recorded shares of its US government money fund there since 2021.

Frequently asked questions

What is the max supply of XLM?

About 50 billion XLM, and no more can be created. Inflation was switched off in October 2019 and 55 billion lumens were burned the following month.

What is the difference between Stellar and XRP?

Both aim at payments and share a founder, Jed McCaleb, but they are separate networks. Stellar is supported by a nonprofit foundation and leans toward issued assets like stablecoins, while the XRP Ledger is closely tied to Ripple, a for-profit company, and its bank payment products.

Can I track XLM without an account?

Yes. The XLM board on this page runs in your browser and saves on your device. Prices come from CoinGecko. Cashboard does not read Stellar wallets, so add your amount to a manual Portfolio and it is priced live.
