What is Linea?

Linea is a zkEVM rollup on Ethereum developed by Consensys, the company behind MetaMask. Its mainnet opened in 2023, and batches are compressed and proven on Ethereum. The LINEA token launched in September 2025 with a burn tied to network fees.

Consensys runs the sequencer, and so far it is the only one. Fees are small because transaction data is compressed and proven in batches, and they are paid in ETH, not LINEA.

The burn is the unusual part. Net ETH fee income is split: 20% of it is burned as ETH, and 80% buys LINEA on the market and burns it. A busy month on Linea therefore burns both ETH and LINEA. That makes fee revenue the number LINEA holders actually track.

Liquidity here has followed incentives. Programs like Linea Surge pulled deposits in with rewards, so liquidity can move when a program changes or ends. Aave handles most lending, Etherex and SyncSwap handle swaps, and Renzo runs restaking on the chain.

Fee revenue, since it feeds both the ETH burn and the LINEA buyback.
