What the agent can see, and what stays private
| Always, once you allow it | The board list, each board's widgets with their type, title and public subject, price alerts, public market readings, quotes and candles, and the short brief of what changed since your last visit. |
|---|---|
| Only with `Read private board data` | The text of your notes, the web addresses of embedded sites and the wallet and account addresses on your widgets. This switch is off by default for every agent. |
| Never | Seed phrases and private keys, which Cashboard does not hold. No tool lets an agent trade, swap or sign. |
| Changes | An agent can propose a plan that adds widgets, alerts, notes and frames. Nothing changes until you press Approve on the plan card. |
Whatever the agent reads goes to the model that agent uses, under that provider's terms. Cashboard itself sends nothing anywhere for this feature. Agents and MCP servers lists every tool and what it returns.
Switch Agents on
- 1
Open Connections
In Cashboard Desktop, open the
Connectionstab of the tool panel and find theAgents (MCP)card. - 2
Turn the switch on
Turn on
Allow agents to connectand wait forOnandListening on 127.0.0.1:<port>. The server listens on this computer only. - 3
Copy the setup for your agent
Under
Connect an AI agent, pressClaude Desktop,Claude Code,CodexorCursor. The card saysCopiedand where the text goes. - 4
Allow the first connection
Start the agent. Cashboard comes to the front with a card that asks whether that agent may read your boards. Press Allow, or Deny.
The buttons appear only while the switch is on. The copied text names the Cashboard app and a bridge script shipped inside it, and holds no token: the bridge reads the token from your Cashboard data folder when the agent starts it. If you move or reinstall Cashboard to another folder, copy the setup again.
Claude Desktop
Press Claude Desktop. In Claude Desktop, open Settings, Developer, Edit Config. Paste the cashboard entry into the mcpServers section of claude_desktop_config.json, save, and restart Claude Desktop. On Windows the copied block looks like the example below. The paths are an example for a user named you; the card fills in the real paths of Cashboard on your computer, and the same goes for the examples further down.
{
"mcpServers": {
"cashboard": {
"command": "C:\\Users\\you\\AppData\\Local\\Programs\\Cashboard\\Cashboard.exe",
"args": [
"C:\\Users\\you\\AppData\\Local\\Programs\\Cashboard\\resources\\app.asar.unpacked\\out\\main\\mcp-bridge.mjs"
],
"env": {
"ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE": "1"
}
}
}
}Claude Code
Press Claude Code and run the copied command in a terminal. It adds Cashboard for your user, so every project sees it. The paths are in double quotes, which works in PowerShell, Terminal on macOS and Linux shells.
claude mcp add --scope user --transport stdio --env ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE=1 cashboard -- "C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\Programs\Cashboard\Cashboard.exe" "C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\Programs\Cashboard\resources\app.asar.unpacked\out\main\mcp-bridge.mjs"If a path holds a double quote, a dollar sign or a backtick, the card says the command cannot be written safely for every shell. Move Cashboard to a folder whose path has none of those, or type the command by hand with the quoting your shell needs.
Codex
Press Codex and add the copied table to ~/.codex/config.toml (on Windows, .codex\config.toml in your user folder). Paths are written as TOML literal strings in single quotes, so Windows backslashes stay as they are. Restart Codex after saving.
[mcp_servers.cashboard]
command = 'C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\Programs\Cashboard\Cashboard.exe'
args = ['C:\Users\you\AppData\Local\Programs\Cashboard\resources\app.asar.unpacked\out\main\mcp-bridge.mjs']
[mcp_servers.cashboard.env]
ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE = "1"Cursor
Press Cursor and add the copied cashboard entry to the mcpServers section of ~/.cursor/mcp.json, then restart Cursor. The block has the same shape as the Claude Desktop one. If the file does not exist yet, the copied block is the whole file.
The card you see when the agent connects
The first time an agent connects, Cashboard shows a card that reads <name> wants to read your Cashboard boards. The name is the one the agent reports, and Cashboard cannot verify it, so allow it only when you have just connected that agent yourself.
Read public board datais on and cannot be turned off.Read private board datais off. Turning it on shows a warning that this data goes to the model the agent uses.Propose changes (asks you to approve each plan)is on. Every plan still waits for your approval.All boardsorOnly some boardspicks which boards the agent may see.- Allow saves the choice for that name. Deny refuses that name for the rest of the session, until you press
Allow againin theAgents (MCP)card.
Saved choices are listed in the Agents (MCP) card with a Revoke button. The approval card and scopes covers each choice in more detail.
Frequently asked questions
Does the agent see my boards as soon as I paste the setup?
No. The agent connects first, then Cashboard shows a card and the agent sees nothing until you press Allow. If you press Deny, it is refused for the rest of the session unless you choose Allow again.
Does the copied setup hold a password or token?
No. It names the Cashboard app and the bridge script inside it. The bridge reads the token from your Cashboard data folder each time the agent starts it.
Do I need Cashboard open?
Yes. The server runs inside the app. With the app closed or the switch off, the agent finds one status tool that says so and no board data.
