What the desktop app adds
Cashboard Desktop is worth installing when a browser tab is not enough. You get the same board editor and the same widgets, plus two widgets that only run on the desktop, boards stored on disk, saved provider keys and alerts that cover all your boards.
| Topic | Web app | Cashboard Desktop |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free, no account. | One-time lifetime access for $199 as of October 2026, paid in crypto, covering Windows and macOS. See Lifetime access. |
| Where boards are saved | In this browser's local storage, so clearing the site's data erases them. | In a database file on your computer, cashboard.sqlite. Uninstalling the program leaves it in place. |
| Widgets only desktop has | Two: Dune query and Custom app, which adds a Web app widget. Both cards are dimmed with a Desktop badge, and a click opens an explanation instead of adding the widget. | Both work. Other widgets run in both builds, except that the swap forms stay on the web (see the row on swap widgets). |
| Embedded web apps | Nothing is proxied. A short list of read-only embedded dashboards, from the Partners (DuckFacts) and Embedded dashboards groups, runs in a sandboxed frame. Any other Web app shows a card that opens the site in a new tab. | The site runs live on the board in its own isolated session. See Web apps in isolated sessions. |
| Swap widgets | The Swap widget in the Solana group loads Jupiter's own form, and the Swap widgets in the Base and Robinhood groups load the LI.FI form. The wallet you connect signs the swap. | No swap form loads in the window. The widget shows Swaps run in your browser with an Open on Jupiter or Open on Jumper button, and a Buy button in another widget opens the token on jup.ag or Jumper in your normal browser. Your wallet signs there, not in Cashboard. |
Connections tab | Says that protected provider connections are configured in Cashboard Desktop. The web build cannot store keys. | Four optional connections: CoinGecko Demo, Blockscout, Coinbase RPC and Dune. From the next desktop release the tab also holds Anthropic key and OpenAI key for B Cash and the Agents (MCP) and MCP servers sections; see Agents and MCP servers. See Connections. |
| Alerts | Checked only while the Alert widget is on screen in a visible tab. | Every armed alert on every saved board, every 15 seconds, while the window is open or minimised. They stop when you close the window. |
| Opening a share link | Open the link in the browser. | Paste it into Open a link someone sent you in the Share dialog, because a desktop window has no address bar. |
| Updates | The site is always current. | Manual: download the newest installer again with your recovery code. See Updates. |
The two builds do not sync. To move a board from the web to the desktop, see First launch and Templates and sharing.
Install on Windows or macOS
Lifetime access covers both installers. Buy or restore access in the access section of cashboard.live, then press Download for your system. The page marks the system it detects with This device. The link that button creates works once and expires after 5 minutes, so start the download right away. Lifetime access explains payment, the recovery code and what to do when a link has expired.
| Windows | Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, .exe installer. The build targets x64 processors. |
|---|---|
| macOS | macOS 13 Ventura or later, one universal .dmg for Apple Silicon and Intel. This is the requirement the download page states. |
| Version | 0.4.2 as of October 2026. The access page shows the version each Download button will give you. |
| Installed program name | Cashboard Preview as of October 2026, the name of the unsigned preview build. |
Windows
- 1
Download the installer
On the access page, press
DownloadunderWindowsand save the.exefile. - 2
Approve the SmartScreen warning
Windows may show a SmartScreen warning when you run the file. Choose
More info, thenRun anyway. - 3
Step through the installer
It is a step-by-step wizard, and it lets you change the install folder.
- 4
Start Cashboard
Open
Cashboard Previewfrom the Start menu or the desktop shortcut.
macOS
- 1
Download the disk image
On the access page, press
DownloadundermacOSand save the.dmg. It is one build for both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. - 2
Copy the app
Open the disk image and copy the app into your
Applicationsfolder. - 3
Open it and approve it once
Open
Cashboard Preview. macOS blocks the first launch because the build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Then open System Settings, go toPrivacy & Securityand chooseOpen Anywayfor it. The button appears there only after macOS has blocked a launch, so try to open the app first. You approve the app once.
First launch
Cashboard Desktop opens the board you edited most recently. On a fresh install there is none, so it creates an empty board named My board and shows the template picker, headed Start from a real board. Pick a template, or choose Or start with an empty board. The picker appears only while you have exactly one board with no widgets and have not chosen yet.
The left panel has the same four tabs as the web app: Add, Boards, Style and Connections. The top bar shows Saving while a change is written, Saved locally once it is on disk and Save failed when the write did not work. A narrow window shows an icon in place of Saving and Saved locally. Getting started walks through your first board.
Bring your web boards along
- 1
Export on the web
Open the board in your browser, press Ctrl K (Cmd K on macOS) and run
Export this board. Keep the.jsonfile it downloads, and repeat for each board you want. - 2
Import on desktop
Open the command palette, run
Import a boardand pick the file. The board arrives as a new board with(import)added to its name. Your other boards are not changed. - 3
Or use a share link
Copy a share link from
Shareon the web. On desktop, openShare, paste the link intoOpen a link someone sent youand pressOpen. A review screen follows, andAdd to my boardssaves the board as a new one.
An export file keeps everything on the board, while a share link leaves out some private fields. Templates and sharing lists which.
Where your data lives
Everything you make is stored in the desktop app's data folder on your computer. Cashboard has no account and no cloud copy. If you cannot find the folder, search your drive for cashboard.sqlite.
| Boards | cashboard.sqlite. Every board is one record in this database. Changes are saved about half a second after you stop editing. |
|---|---|
| Saved connections | provider-settings.json in the same folder, encrypted with the operating system's secure storage. The file appears once you save your first connection. |
| Web app sessions | The logins and cookies of each Custom app widget, kept in the same folder with one separate store per widget. |
| Window settings | A few small preferences sit in the app window's own browser storage, also in the same folder: whether you have dealt with the template picker, which Add groups are open and whether the tool panel is hidden. In builds that have the workstation library, your saved layouts and widget presets are kept there as well, and its own Export button saves them. None of it is in cashboard.sqlite or in a board export. |
| Windows folder | The cashboard folder inside %APPDATA%, usually C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\cashboard. |
| macOS folder | Inside ~/Library/Application Support. Cashboard does not document the exact subfolder name for macOS, so search for cashboard.sqlite there. |
| Custom folder | If the environment variable CASHBOARD_USER_DATA_DIR is set when the app starts, the app uses that folder instead. |
Backups and reinstalling
Cashboard makes no automatic backups and has no snapshot or restore feature. Uninstalling the program leaves the data folder alone, and so does installing a newer version. A disk failure, a manual delete of the folder or a wiped computer does take your boards with it.
Export each board before you reinstall, move to another computer or hand a computer on: press Ctrl K (Cmd K on macOS) and run Export this board. The file is the whole board as plain JSON and strips nothing, so it keeps wallet addresses, manual holdings, notes, paper trading positions, every Custom app address and every other widget setting. Treat it as private. It does not hold your saved connections, the logins inside embedded apps or the window settings above, so enter your keys again under Connections and sign in to those sites again. You can also copy the whole data folder while the app is closed, as a backup on the same computer. Saved connections are encrypted with the operating system's secure storage, so plan to enter them again on another computer.
To remove your data on purpose, export what you want to keep, uninstall, then delete the data folder yourself. Cashboard has no built-in reset.
Updates
Installed copies of Cashboard Desktop do not update themselves. Paid releases stay private, so the in-app updater is switched off and the update panel only points you to the download page.
- 1
Open the access page
Go to cashboard.live/#access, or click the download icon in the top bar of the app (its name is
Desktop updates), which opens theCashboard updatespanel, and pressOpen secure download page. It opens in your normal browser. - 2
Restore your purchase
A browser that still holds your purchase may show
Lifetime access is activeat once, and then you can skip this step. Otherwise expandAlready paid? Restore lifetime access, paste your recovery code and pressRestore purchase. The page confirms withLifetime access restored. - 3
Download and run the installer
Press
Downloadfor your system and run the new installer. Your boards, saved connections and web app logins live in the data folder, not in the program, so they stay as they are.
The Cashboard updates panel shows Installed version with the number you have, so you can compare it with the version on the access page. Its badge always reads WINDOWS, on a Mac too. The Changelog says which changes reach an installed app only with a new desktop release.
Web apps in isolated sessions
The Custom app card, in the On the board group of the Add tab, puts a live website on your board. The new widget is titled Web, opens https://app.hyperliquid.xyz until you type another address, and is called Web app in the Style tab and in share reviews. Each widget runs its site in its own isolated browser session, so one widget never sees another one's logins.
- Logins and cookies stay inside the widget and survive restarting the app. Deleting the widget, or the board it sits on, erases them. A board you duplicate or import starts logged out.
- Downloads are blocked, and so is every permission request, including the camera, the microphone and notifications.
- Up to 3 pages run live at once. The others show a snapshot until you press
Activate. A page also pauses below 60% board zoom and while its widget is not fully in view. - Some sites refuse to run inside another app or block sign-in from embedded browsers. Open those in your normal browser.
The reference for the widget, with its address rules, the Quick launch list and the error panels, is under Board tools.
Alerts and the window lifecycle
Alerts run in the app's main process, not in the widget. Every 15 seconds Cashboard Desktop reads every saved board, collects each armed Alert, fetches the prices, Solana edge values or Hyperliquid markets those alerts need and compares them with your lines. The board does not have to be open, and the widget does not have to be on screen. A notification fires once each time a value reaches its line, and a second notification for the same alert within 5 minutes is dropped. An alert that is already past its line when the app starts notifies at once. Alerts covers the kinds, thresholds and wording.
| You do this | Windows | macOS |
|---|---|---|
| Minimise the window | Alerts keep checking. | Alerts keep checking. |
| Close the window | The app quits, and alerts stop. | The app stays in the Dock, but alerts stop. Click the Dock icon to open a new window, and checking starts again. |
Cashboard has no system tray icon, does not start when you sign in and does nothing to keep the computer awake. Only one copy runs at a time: starting the app again restores the open window, and clicking a notification brings the window forward.
When you close the window, Cashboard first writes the current board to the database. If that write fails, the close is cancelled and the top bar shows Save failed, so the window stays open for you to retry.
Connections
Connections are optional keys and endpoints that raise limits or switch a feature on. Open the Connections tab in the left panel to save them. Cards exist for CoinGecko Demo, Blockscout, Coinbase RPC and Dune. Each is encrypted with the operating system's secure storage and never shown again, and a card reads Connected, Preconfigured or Optional. The app window learns only whether a connection is set and where it came from, never the value. When the system offers no secure storage, Cashboard refuses to save instead of writing a key in plain text.
Changes apply without restarting the app. Enter provider credentials only, never a seed phrase, wallet private key or exchange trading secret. Connections walks through each card, and Blockscout covers the one with the most setup.
Privacy on the desktop
The desktop app has no account, no cloud copy of your boards and no analytics in its window. The table lists what it does contact.
| What goes out | Where it goes | Who sends it |
|---|---|---|
| Market, portfolio and chain requests | The public provider behind each widget, for example CoinGecko, Binance, Hyperliquid, DexScreener and Blockscout. A wallet address you enter in a widget such as Portfolio or Perps positions goes to the provider for that network, which can see it. | The app's main process, on your computer. No Cashboard server sits in between, unlike some lookups on the web build. |
| Live streams | Public WebSocket feeds, for example Binance ticks in Prices and Watchlist and Hyperliquid marks. | The app window itself. |
| Logos and images | A fixed list of image hosts, such as CoinGecko and DexScreener. The window is set to load images from no other host. | The app window itself. |
| Provider keys | Only the provider each connection belongs to: your CoinGecko Demo key to CoinGecko, your Dune key to Dune, your Blockscout key to the API URL you saved on that card. Calls through a saved Coinbase RPC endpoint go to that endpoint. | The app's main process. |
Sites in Custom app | The sites themselves, plus whatever you type into them. | The widget's own isolated page. |
| Cashboard's own servers | None from the app. It does not call cashboard.live and does not check for updates. Open secure download page opens cashboard.live in your normal browser when you press it. | Your browser, only on that click. |
The web build is different: it runs Vercel Web Analytics for page views. Privacy and data covers the whole product, and the privacy policy has the legal text.
If the window is blank or the app will not start
Work down this table. It lists what Cashboard itself shows or does at start-up and while it saves.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Windows shows a SmartScreen warning, or macOS blocks the first launch. | The installers are unsigned previews. | Follow the steps under Install on Windows or macOS. |
| The app closes straight after you start it, and your installer was version 0.4.0 or 0.4.1. | Those two installers closed at start-up with a JavaScript error. Version 0.4.2 fixes it. | Download the newest installer with your recovery code, as described under Updates. |
| Starting the app again shows no new window. | Only one copy runs, and a second start brings the open window forward. | Look for the existing window in the taskbar or the Dock. |
A full-screen Cashboard could not start with a message and Try again. | The app could not load a board from the local database. The message under the heading gives the reason. | Press Try again. If the message stays, close the app, copy the data folder as it is and write to support with the message text. |
Save failed in the top bar, or a red banner that begins Changes could not be saved locally. | The last write to the local database did not succeed. | Press Retry save, and run Export this board from the command palette to keep a copy before you close the app. |
| The window opens but stays blank. | Cashboard has no diagnostic for this. The app writes no log files of its own. | Quit the app completely and start it again. If it stays blank, write to support with your operating system and its version, plus the installed Cashboard version. |
Frequently asked questions
Does Cashboard Desktop update itself?
No. Installed copies do not check for updates. To get a newer version, open cashboard.live/#access, restore your purchase with your recovery code and download the newest installer. Your boards stay where they are.
Does uninstalling Cashboard Desktop delete my boards?
No. Removing the program leaves the data folder, which holds your boards, saved connections and web app logins. Delete that folder yourself if you want them gone, and export any board you want to keep first.
Do alerts run when I close the window?
No. Alerts are checked while the window is open or minimised. On Windows, closing the window quits the app. On macOS the app stays in the Dock but stops checking until you open a window again.
Why do Windows and macOS warn me about the installer?
As of October 2026 both installers are unsigned previews, so the operating system cannot check who published them. On Windows choose More info, then Run anyway. On macOS open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. Download the installer only from your own access page.
Are my web boards available in the desktop app?
Not automatically. The two builds store boards separately and do not sync. Export a board on the web with Export this board, then run Import a board on the desktop, or paste a share link into the Share dialog. An export file keeps everything on the board, while a share link leaves out some private fields.
Does the desktop app send my boards anywhere?
No. Boards are stored in a database on your computer, and Cashboard has no account or cloud copy. Widgets ask public providers for data, and each request carries what it needs, such as a coin or a wallet address you entered. Sites you open in a Custom app widget talk to their own servers. The desktop window includes no analytics.
